The Name FreddyThunder

Hi! This is Freddythunder. Actually, my real name is Freddy Giordano. I figured I would have a little page to tell you how Freddythunder became to be. It was actually a nickname given to me by a good friend that I worked with; but before I get into that, I'll tell you a little bit about myself.

I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. When I was 14, my father got a job for Cray Supercomputers in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Well, four years of scrapping windows and shoveling snow was enough for me. When I was 18, I packed my bags and drove back to Arizona. Now, I live in Tempe, Arizona. If you are not familiar with Tempe, it's a beautiful little suburb of Phoenix. This is where Arizona State University resides. This is where I got my nickname.

I've worked in the restaurant industry for the past 12 years doing just about everything. At 19, I was a manager, and since then I've been everything else - Bartender, Barback, Server, Dishwasher, Cook, you name it, I've done it. As a matter of fact, I wrote a book about the industry. It's a funny book about the idiots encountered in the hospitality industry; definitely a good read!! It's called What The Hell Is Wrong With You!? - Footnotes Of A Burnt Out, Pissed Off, Ten-Year Restaurant Worker. I self-published the book and it's in all the Border's Book Stores in Phoenix. I'm working on getting it to the national level, but these things take time. I am glad to say that there are copies of my book all over the United States from orders I've received of the website. Oh yeah, and my friend Ula has one in Finland – so look at that, I'm international!! Mike Miller and his son Sam

Anyway, back to the nickname: Back in 1998, I was working at a bar called McDuffy's Sports Bar in downtown Tempe. When I was working there, foosball was the 'big thing'. At that time, we had tournaments that most the employees, including myself, got into for reasons beyond our knowledge!! It is a fun game, don't get me wrong, but I think we were a little to into it. Anyhow, we were in the midst of a tournament with some of the regular customers that were real good at the game. I was playing goalie for our team when my friend Mike Miller showed up. Now Mike's a big guy; he’s about 6'7", I'd say about 230, big guy. The best thing that emphasized his size was his resounding voice. He walked up to the furious fight on the foosball table, and in a boxing ring announcers voice, he decided to announce yours truly,

"And in this corner...weighing in at 97 pounds...with a current record of 1 and 92...in the pink and fuscia shorts...the red headed-wonder...ah-freddy...ah-thunderrrrrrrrrr!!!!!"

He was so loud, that the after he said this, the only thing in that part of the bar that made a noise was the jukebox and the foosball dropping in the goal. Everyone in the bar heard that, including my fellow employees, ergo, the birth of Freddythunder - foosball player. Now, some of my friends still call me Thunder. And when I started my own business, I called it Tempe Thunder Press. Catchy, huh?

So, there you have it. The reasoning behind the seasoning!! If you read this whole thing, I'm impressed!! It turned out a bit longer than I thought it would. I hope you enjoy this site – it's my personal one. There's more of a business oriented one at business.freddythunder.com.
